URW one of the world’s most sustainable companies
Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has been included in a list of the Global 100 most sustainable companies in the world by Corporate Knights, a Canadian media and research company.
Every year since 2005, Corporate Knights has evaluated the sustainability of every publicly traded corporation with revenue over $1bn. Only companies making sustainable solutions a core part of their business make the Global 100.
This year, 6,733 companies were rated on 25 metrics including sustainability targets and performance, sustainable revenue and sustainable investment, plus gender and diversity, CEO pay versus employee average, CEO bonuses based on sustainability performance, taxes paid and contributions to employee pensions.
This is the first time URW has been included in the ranking and is a clear reflection of our Better Places plan, our progress embedding sustainability at the core of our business. In October 2023 we announced a comprehensive evolution of our Better Places plan, committing to partner with cities wherever we operate to accelerate their environmental transition, while supporting the sustainable transformation of retail and bolstering our positive impact on local communities.
We are committed to achieving net zero on scopes 1 & 2 by 2030 and across all 3 scopes by 2050. URW was the first retail real estate company in the European Union and the sixth CAC 40 company to obtain the approval for these net-zero targets from the Science Based Targets initiative, a UN-backed sustainability monitoring body.
