Experience the unexpected: it’s an art invasion!

#Group News
At Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, we reinvent the retail experience. We create inspiring destinations, where the unexpected happens. This year again art pervades our shopping centres, reaching into our communities and transforming their environment.

Walking around the streets and squares of Polygone Riviera this summer, our visitors enjoyed a unique reality-enhancing experience. From 19 June to 14 October, the centre exhibited an exceptional set of twelve sculptures by leading French contemporary artist Lilian Bourgeat, including two new works made especially for the occasion. After the gravity – and logic – defying works of Philippe Ramette in 2017, the Polygone Riviera art programme once again explored the realm of imagination with this series of “augmented” objects, like doors opening into the world of the extraordinary.

In the heart of Paris, Ateliers Gaîté too has become home to monumental art pieces. Urged by the Group, world-class contemporary artists such as SatOne, Velvet&Zoer and most recently Brusk, have taken over the site, turning the ongoing project into a vibrant hotspot of urban art.

In Bratislava, Aupark is hosting the McQueen pop up gallery, turning one of the centre’s iconic shopfronts into a unique fashion theatre. The unveiling of the pop up gallery opened with an exceptional ballet performance by Slovak National Theater soloists prepared specially for the event. This extraordinary project brings haute couture fashion closer to our visitors, who can experience the exhibition until 28 October.

This fall, the travelling exhibition “Dior: The Art of Color” will take over the Designer Gallery in Galeria Mokotów. Previously presented in New York, Shanghai and Tokyo, it features images of the work of Serge Lutens, Tyen and Peter Philips, the Creative and Image Director of the House’s Makeup. Displayed in six different spots in the Designer Gallery, the photos create a spectacular installation, inviting the visitors into the aesthetical world of Dior.

In New Jersey, Garden State Plaza’s fresh new look includes a permanent contemporary art collection showcasing work by cutting-edge New York and global artists including Hugo McCloud, Timothy Paul Myers, Los Carpinteros, Mariko Mori and Jose Dávila. The art collection, curated by Isolde Brielmaier, the Group’s Executive Director of Art and Culture in the US, will be complemented by a programme of cultural events, tours, and artist talks – enlivening the community’s artistic life.

Westfield UTC has also confirmed a multi-year partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) that will, over three years, bring nine world-class installations created by internationally acclaimed artists to the destination.

More events to come, stay tuned for what’s next!
