Celebrating the holiday season 2/2

The end-of-year holidays present a wonderful opportunity to spread cheer and goodwill in our centres and bring friends, families and communities together. Beyond artistic, thoughtfully designed decorations, our teams have put great consideration into their holiday programmes, curating events and local talents to bring forward a holiday showcase with something to offer every guest who walks through their doors!

We have recently shared a sampling of the ongoing activities in our centres. Here are some more ways URW has been celebrating the season’s magic:

IN THE US
  • Westfield Valley Fair in the US is hosting live Nutcracker performances by the San Jose Dance Theatre, as well as other live musical on weekends. Keeping with the musical theme, in New York, festive carollers go around the Holiday Market at the Oculus to add a touch of festivity to the wintry destination.

  • In Westfield Century City, guests who celebrate Hanukkah will appreciate a seasonal and changing mural by Los Angeles contemporary artist and designer, Hillel Smith. The artistic interpretation through whimsical elements of Hanukkah into an illustrative candle inspire viewers with their favourite parts of the holiday, and may even teach something new.

  • Westfield Annapolis and Westfield Montgomery are hosting a Sensory Santa partnership with Autism Speaks, with longer time slots for children and families who might need more time to take photos with Santa.

IN THE NETHERLANDS
  • The iconic Westfield Mall of the Netherlands welcomed the season with a bang, with their very first Christmas Lights Switch On since this year’s rebranding. Music, a lights show, and dancing, set against a magical holiday background, had the crowd spellbound all evening.

IN CENTRAL EUROPE
  • In Germany, the Westfield Centro Lights On ceremony drew a huge fan base, with local community members gathering for this destination highlight. For many, it signals the start of the season, certainly in part due to the succeeding opening of the Christmas markets!

  • With innovation running throughout the programme, Westfield Chodov Shopping Centre’s offers revolve around innovative technology. Customers will experience a journey to the North Pole – the theme of all of the accompanying attractions – through a 4D model of a Christmas Express train, by flying over a snowy landscape in a virtual reality Santa’s sleigh and in the company of augmented reality characters. A Mega Dome tent with North Pole aurora video mapping is set up directly in front of the centre.

IN THE NORDICS
  • Westfield Mall of Scandinavia opened their brand-new ice rink – Westfield ICE. The opening weekend offers hot beverages, gingerbread cookies and figure skating performances. Similarly, in the Czech Republic, Centrum Černý Most threw a spectacular Christmas ice show!

  • Nacka Forum, one of our Swedish centres, serves as a venue for the local Christmas market, with CSR activations, live music, hot spiced beverages, and sweet treats ready to be taken home. On the other side of Stockholm, Solna Centrum proposes crafting and do-it-yourself events for families, highlighting the more traditional aspects of Christmas.

  • Guests at Fisketorvet in Denmark have been enjoying our “selfie rooms”, with playful installations designed for memorable moments with friends.

Our centres and their teams – elves, Santa Clauses, and mascots included – are all eager to welcome you and play a part in your holiday festivities! We hope we see you soon.

Season’s greetings!
