A comprehensive evolution of Better Places
On October 10, we shared an update of our industry-leading Better Places sustainability roadmap, designed to support the environmental transition of cities and the sustainable evolution of retail.
The plan includes a commitment to be net-zero across Scopes 1 & 2 by 2030 and net-zero across all scopes by 2050.
All of our net-zero targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative - the first for a retail real estate company in the EU - and are in line with the scientific consensus of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Our new Better Places Certification will assess and promote the sustainable performance of our centres, and the Sustainable Retail Index we announced today will provide greater transparency on the sustainable commitments of the retailers within our portfolio.
Better Places includes expanded environmental targets including on biodiversity, water consumption and waste, with numerous commitments such as that all new development projects will achieve a biodiversity net gain and all retail assets will implement a renaturation project by 2030.
